The History of Icaion
Millenia ago, a planet called Icaion was hit by a giant crystal of unknown origins from the depths of space. With staggering force, the crystal pierced through the planet. The impact was so strong that the planet, and the forces governing it, changed forever.
The collision of the crystal, Henakor, changed the planet Icaion, and the forces governing it, forever.
Fast forward thousands of years. Chunks of the land that broke off from Icaion due to the force of impact are now inhabited by a prosperous society. The shards of the crystals that were scattered across the continent have been found to possess great powers, which the people have harnessed to perform incredible feats.
The crystals are called Qoam and the inhabitants attune themselves to their unique magnetic field to create weapons, and move them telekinetically to construct bridges and even entire cities.
Society has prospered on the large island broken off in the collision. The capital city, Ilvash, is flourishing thanks to the power channeled from the crystals.
Society has prospered on this remote land broken off in the collision. But, closer to what remains of the pierced planet are small floating islands. Their vicinity to the largest crystal still embedded in Icaion, called Henakor, makes them more vulnerable to its powerful waves of energy.
They are also susceptible to Henakor’s gravitational force, and float around Icaion, above a blanket of mist and clouds. This seemingly endless storm obscures the view of most of the planet. From their perspective, the inhabitants of the populated continent are just able to see the Henakor sticking out from the perennial storm and are completely unaware of what may lie beneath it.
Society has learned to channel the crystals, called Qoam, and manipulate them to achieve incredible feats.
In Ilvash, the capital city, legends and tales have arisen to explain the mysterious crystal, and the strange islands floating around it. Scholars have scientific theories to explain its phenomenon, the faith have ideologies. And the common folk rely on hearsay, rumors that have transformed into lore and legend. The only thing that is known for certain is that anyone who has ever attempted to reach these islands has never returned.
The pulsing waves of power emanating from the crystal makes the floating islands extremely volatile and hazardous. These unexplored lands are both astonishing and terrifying to the people. And soon, human innovation and curiosity will create a dangerous conversion. The time to discover the unknown is drawing near.
